Meet Claire Thede
My Story and Vision
I am a theatre artist deeply shaped by my upbringing in a small rural town in Iowa, where the importance of positive, inclusive spaces for young minds in the arts was instilled in me early on. As I work toward completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts at Iowa State University, my passion lies in the intersection of acting, directing, and musical theatre, with a deep focus on creating works that encourage empathy, curiosity, and growth—especially for youth.
Through my journey as a performer and educator, I’ve come to understand the transformative power of theatre. My involvement in two new musical workshop productions in Iowa has taught me the importance of collaboration and experimentation, pushing me to explore new works and engage in devised theatre that challenges traditional storytelling structures. I believe theatre should evolve and reflect the world we live in, which is why I continue to seek out projects that allow me to think critically, create boldly, and tell stories that matter.
A passionate advocate for women in the arts, I am committed to using my voice and platform to create spaces where female stories and perspectives are heard, celebrated, and amplified. Whether I’m teaching youth theatre or developing new work, I strive to foster an environment of trust, creativity, and empowerment.
The work I create, both on stage and behind the scenes, is always guided by my desire to bring people together, to spark dialogue, and to create art that speaks to the heart of who we are as individuals and as a community.
